Family Style

This should be a short post today, or at least I hope so because I am tired and want to go to bed!

After arriving at our villa at midnight last night it was great to wake up without an alarm and have a leisurely breakfast with family in such a gorgeous place. The villa is sprawling and everything is white. It is perched at the edge of the Aegean Sea and our beautiful infinity pool and jacuzzi look out over the Bay of Kalathas to Chania. There are so many rooms that each family has two rooms and there are others we aren’t even using. Our linens are crisp and white and each towel and duvet is embroidered with the logo of the villa. Needless to say, this is leaps and bounds nicer than our typical vacation lodging! Thank you, Georgia and Jerry for our vacation in paradise…here’s hoping it doesn’t spoil us rotten!

So now you can see the reason we came to Greece this year: my Thea Georgia rented an amazing Villa in Chania, Crete, and offered for us to stay with her, along with my brother’s family and other relatives. Then… my Thea Tina rented another villa across the street for her family, and about 30 minutes away I have second cousins and other extended realitives in yet another villa! This is the kind of family reunion I live for 😁 Some pictures of cousin shenanigans:

We didn’t do much today, just explored some of the old town of Chania, a port town on the north shore of Crete with narrow pedestrian streets filled with shops that feel way more like north Africa than Europe to Zach and me. This makes sense, considering Crete was  Turkish and Egyptian for longer than it  has been Greek.

The girls had a blast today playing with their cousins, and spent hours in our pool overlooking the sparkling bay. After the girls went to bed we stayed outside drinking wine and watching shooting stars from the pool deck with Georgia and Jerry and Greg.

I broke a wine glass, but aren’t you supposed to break dishes for luck in Greece? I’m going to go ahead and consider it a good omen.
